Turn off the fridge before removing the extra ice. This makes the melting process safer and easier.
Take out the food items from the freezer section so the ice can melt properly and water does not spoil stored items.
Leave the fridge door open for some time and allow the extra ice to melt on its own. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice, as this can damage the inside wall.
Once the ice melts, clean all water with a dry cloth or towel so moisture does not freeze again quickly.
Switch the fridge back on and monitor for the next few hours. If heavy ice forms again quickly, the door may not be sealing properly.
Do not leave the fridge door open for too long, as warm air causes moisture and extra ice build-up.
